In the second semester, between 08/17 and 11/15, MAM São Paulo will promote, with the sponsorship of Movida rent of cars, the new edition of the Panorama of Brazilian Art. “Sertão” was the concept proposed by curator Júlia Rebouças to guide the 36th Panorama, in which 29 artists will participate. After an extensive process of research and travel throughout all regions of Brazil, including cities such as Cachoeira (BA), Recife (PE), Brasília (DF), Florianópolis (SC), São Paulo and the Cariri region of Ceará, the curator invited artists who relate to the concept, understanding art itself as “sertão” – in its instance of experimentation and resistance –, thus leaving aside the geographic bias easily associated with the word.

Transformations in Brazilian society, religions, police violence, gender identity, racial prejudice and the environment are some of the themes that appear in photographs, paintings, installations, performances, videos, sculptures and objects in this Panorama. The selected artists are in the beginning or mid-career, with productions that point to speculative territories that give meaning to the idea of the sertão, in addition to mature artists, with works that deserve to be revisited in the light of the proposed debates.

The selected names are: Ana Lira, Ana Pi, Ana Vaz, Antonio Obá, Coletivo Fulni-ô de Cinema, Cristiano Lenhardt, Dalton Paula, Daniel Albuquerque, Desali, the duo Gabi Bresola & Mariana Berta, Gê Viana, Gervane de Paula, Lise Lobato, Luciana Magno, Mabe Bethônico, Mariana de Matos, Maxim Malhado, Maxwell Alexandre, Michel Zózimo, Paul Setúbal, Rádio Yandê, Randolpho Lamonier, Raphael Escobar, Raquel Versieux, Regina Parra, Rosa Luz, Santídio Pereira, Vania Medeiros and Vulcanica PokaRopa.
