Hockney painting breaks auction record

The painting Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures), by the American painter David Hockney, was sold for the astonishing value of 90.3 million dollars at an auction in New York yesterday, Friday, 11/16. Dating back to 1972, the piece displaced a work by Jeff Koons as the most expensive work by a living artist – with the bidding war lasting just 9 minutes. Some days before, chop suey, by Edward Hopper, hit 91.9 million dollars in the Ebsworth Collection auction.
