José Barbosa
Portrait of Jose Barbosa

The exposure own light will present unpublished works by the artist from Pernambuco José Barbosa, painter, watercolourist, draughtsman, illustrator, sculptor, engraver and carver. The collected works show Barbosa's ability to unite different references, genres and themes, not limiting himself to a single technique. His works go far beyond Pernambuco regionalism. Even because of this, the artist became more recognized outside Brazil, after holding about 20 international exhibitions (Germany, Cuba, France, Spain, England, Portugal, Sweden, USA), in the period in which he lived in other countries, between 1972 and 1998.

José Manuel Ballester
Jose Manuel Ballester. “Italian forest in spring”, 2020

the press conference The tallest towers start on the ground with all artists represented by the gallery, it is based on an ancient Chinese proverb that values effort, patience, resilience and perseverance among other virtues. In the exhibition, it is possible to see, through signs, analogies and appropriations, a set of works that outline a symbolic scenario of construction and gradual evolution, while exploring the development of human thought in different artistic languages. Divided into two volumes, each with a fundamental part for supporting a tower – the foundation and the axle – as a starting point, the exhibition is built simultaneously in two physical spaces.

Bruno Vilela
Bruno Vilela. The Night Oracle, 2022.

Sample DramaDream features a series of works by the artist Bruno Vilela that transit the triple frontier between art, psychoanalysis and spirituality. A personal mythology made from a kind of “dream state”, the universe of study of psychoanalysis. The exhibition originates from an old desire of the artist to photograph the scenes that appeared in his unconscious during sleep. Psychoanalysts Freud and Jung went deep into the universe of dreams, and that's where the possibility of analyzing the human unconscious came from through the interpretation of plots and images that we remember when we wake up.

There are six oil paintings in large formats, a drawing, three photographs and a painted velvet curtain. The works have their own narrative, but the set tells a non-linear story of magical realism, where the gallery's exhibition space is a big book.

Nara Roesler Gallery

Veronica is Daniel Senise's third solo show at the gallery Nara Roesler. Curated by Luis Pérez-Oramas, the exhibition features the most recent developments in the Museums and Galleries series, in addition to a set of unpublished works that reflect on the relationships between space, time, image and memory. The Christian relic where the true face of Christ is believed to be recorded, known as the Mantle of Veronica, would have been the fabric used by Veronica to dry Jesus' face on the way to the crucifixion, being marked with the reliefs of his face. This object served as inspiration for several painters throughout the history of art. Representations of artists such as El Greco and Zurbarán serve as a motto for the series Veronica (2022), by Daniel Senise. The artist appropriates these compositions, recreating them, but without including the face of Christ, so that the focus is on the support that supports that image.

On September 24th, due to the event, the artist Daniel Senise will give a guided tour at 4 pm, open to the public.

Campos de energia: Fluxos fractais
View of the exhibition “Energy Fields: Fractal Flows”

already show Energy Fields: Fractal Flows, the gallery’s second exhibition, presents a selection of different practices in the field of abstract-geometrics, from the organic geometry of Tomie Ohtake, to the algebraic and serial pragmatics of José Patrício, passing through works by Abraham Palatnik, Heinz Mack, Julio Le Parc, Lucia Koch, Raul Mourão, Marco Maggi and Philippe Decrauzat, who unfold their resonances in the form of visual energies. In the middle of the 20th century, several artists working in Latin America and Europe created propositions that focused on the experience of looking. Influenced by the trends of the abstract-geometric vanguards of the beginning of the century, especially those of Russian Constructivism and the Bauhaus, and guided by principles of optics, the artists organize compositions in which scientific rationality is applied in the construction of expressive visual effects, making us perceive as mobile what is static, revealing to us that the instability of the observed image, its vibration in our gaze, corresponds to the instability of the meaning of the work as something established beforehand by the artist's intentionality.
