The Armory Show is one of the main art fairs in New York, as well as an event conducive to discovering and collecting the best artistic production of the 20th and 21st centuries. The Armory Show features the most important international galleries, commissioned projects, and an extensive and diverse public program. Since its founding in 1994, The Armory Show has served as a hub for the art world, inspiring dialogue, discovery and patronage.
The Armory Show was founded by city gallery owners – Colin de Land, Pat Hearn, Matthew Marks and Paul Morris – in search of a platform to showcase and promote new voices in the visual arts. In its 25 years, The Armory Show has maintained its mission while establishing itself as an unmissable event in the heart of New York, welcoming more than 65,000 visitors each year.
In the 2019 edition, the fair encountered some obstacles – the city hall blocked one of the piers where the Armory tents are set up, which led to last-minute changes in locations and the suspension of one of the parallel events.
More than 100 galleries make up the Armory's main sector, including the Brazilian Nara Roesler. Artist Tania Candiani presents a performance in the “Platform” sector, curated by Sally Tallant.
