IMS promotes ninth edition of D-Day

Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Since 2011, IMS organizes D-Day – Drummond Day, with the aim of making the date of birth of the great Brazilian poet Carlos Drummond de Andrade part of the country's cultural calendar.

On October 31, 1902, in the city of Itabira (MG), the writer Carlos Drummond de Andrade was born. THE D-Day – Drummond Day brings a special program and this year's edition will feature three events: a music and poetry show at IMS Paulista, a recital at IMS Rio and an educational activity at IMS Poços.

On the 31st (Thursday), at 8:30 pm, the São Paulo headquarters will present the show Modernist cabaret for Carlos Drummond de Andrade. With a script and direction by Eucanaã Ferraz and musical direction by Bruno Cosentino, the presentation brings to the stage the singers Lívia Nestrovski and Numa Ciro, accompanied by Claudia Castelo Branco (piano) and Aline Gonçalves (clarinet, clarinet and flute).

Throughout the show, poems by Drummond will be recited, in dialogue with songs by Noel Rosa, Belchior, Milton Nascimento, among others, in a union between music and poetry. Tickets for the event cost R$ 20 (full) and R$ 10 (half) and can be purchased in advance at site Eventbrite or, on the day of the event, at the IMS Paulista box office.

Also on the 31st, at 8 pm, IMS Rio promotes the recital Our time, inspired by the homonymous poem by Drummond. The presentation will be led by singer Olivia Byington, by actor and guitarist Rodrigo Lima, and by actress Bianca Byington, who is also directing the show. During the recital, the three will interpret chronicles, songs and poems by the writer. Admission is free, with passwords distributed 30 minutes before and limit of 1 ticket per person.

IMS Poços, in turn, celebrates Drummond's work with an activity promoted by the Education area, in partnership with literature teacher Sérgio Roberto Montero Aguiar and Valéria dos Santos Rêgo, teacher at Vitalina Rossi Municipal School. Scheduled for the 31st, at 7 pm, the event will focus on the work New Reunion – 19 Poetry Books 1. In the first moment, Montero Aguiar will talk about the book. Then, a group of students from the Vitalina Rossi Municipal School will perform a dramatic reading of the poems. The activity is free and open to the public.

Coming to its ninth edition, the Day D - Drummond Day aims to make the poet's date of birth part of the country's cultural calendar, promoting and disseminating the writer's work, which has had part of its collection under the custody of the IMS since 2011.
