ARCOmadrid 2018

Madrid, Spain

Unlike previous editions, which revolved around an honored country, the 37th edition of the ARCOmadrid The concept of “future” was a guiding principle both for the selection of participating galleries and for the planning of their sections and parallel programming. This year, 211 galleries from 29 countries will be part of the fair, 160 of which are in the General Program. The other galleries are divided into sections organized by guest curators: “Dialogues”; "Opening"; and the “Future” section/exhibition, which starts from the premise that “the future is not what will happen, but what we are going to do”.

This year, ten Brazilian women are part of main section from ARCOmadrid: Anita Schwartz (Rio de Janeiro), Athena Contemporânea (Rio de Janeiro), Baró Galeria (São Paulo), Casa Triângulo (São Paulo), Dan Galeria (São Paulo), Jaqueline Martins (São Paulo), Luciana Brito Galeria (São Paulo, New York), Marília Razuk (São Paulo), Raquel Arnaud (São Paulo) and Vermelho (São Paulo). Galleries Fortes D'Aloia & Gabriel (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro) and Luisa Strina (São Paulo) are participating alongside 13 other galleries of the already traditional “Dialogues” section, in which curators María de Corral, Lorena Martínez de Corral and Catalina Lozano establish dialogues between two artists from each exhibitor. Organized by Stefanie Hessler and Ilaria Gianni, the section "Opening" – aimed at presenting one or two artists from galleries open for a maximum of seven years – has the presence of the gallery Cavalo from Rio de Janeiro.

Finally, "Future" includes works by the OPAVIVARÁ! collective, represented by A Gentil Carioca (Rio de Janeiro), and by Eduardo Navarro, by Nara Roesler (São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, New York). The section, curated by Chus Martínez, Rosa Lleó and Elise Lammer, proposes that participating galleries present their personal vision of the future through works by artists who have addressed the theme.

A series of debates, presentations and awards complement the fair's program. The complete agenda can be seen on here.
