Gabi Celan's practice resides in the intersection between research, teaching, material experimentation and discourse. His works occupy an interstitial space between familiar object, installation, sculpture and machine, taking place in the space-time continuum. Often working in collaboration with other artists, Celan also carries out performances and interventions which result in record photographs, documentation and remains.

Among the small contraptions he creates, works such as “EP8 – 17” stand out, in which he employs an automation system with sockets, switches, lights and cables that resembles safety or signaling equipment; “Model: Pool 2000L + cement, 2017”, created together with Rafael Chvaicer, which reproduces a hydraulic motor with batteries; or “Model: Rake + suspended strap, 2017”, also produced together with Chvaicer, in which small copper bars hanging from the model conduct energy and move. In large-scale installations, the artist uses discarded furniture, heavy tools, cables and electrical devices, always plugged in. His objects, on the other hand, operate on a diminutive, almost domestic scale, as in “Bar Cacique Maravilha [cup]”, or “EPPRUMO – 17”.

Gabi Celan lives and works in São Paulo. He has been a member of Atelier do Centro since 2012 and holds a bachelor's degree in visual arts from FAAP. In addition to her practice in the studio, Celan also works as an assistant to the artist Rubens Espírito Santo and as a museologist at the Atelier do Centro. Celan participated in several shows, including the 1st Show of the 2017 Exhibition Program of the Centro Cultural São Paulo/CCSP; Exhibition at the Fita Tape gallery, 2017; PARTE Fair, 2015; 46th Piracicaba Contemporary Art Salon; and 39th SARP – National-Contemporary Ribeirão Preto Art Salon. He also participated in several residencies, such as RE-USO at Praça Victor Civita, São Paulo; and Residence at the Atelier do Centro in Barcelona – Taller del Clot.
