Art Basel Fair 2018


This year the Art Basel fair brings together 290 of the most important galleries the world, with works by more than 4,000 artists. Visitors to the fair will be able to discover works of modern and contemporary art, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, installations, prints, prints, photographs, video and digital art.

the sector Feature features projects by historic and established artists, curated by the galleries themselves. Projects may include presentations, juxtapositions and thematic displays by artists representing a range of cultures, generations and artistic approaches. This year this section features the Brazilians Paulo Bruscky, represented by the gallery Nara Roesler; Arthur Luiz Piza, represented by the gallery Raquel Arnaud; and the poet Augusto de Campos, represented by the Berlin gallery Supportico Lopez.

Already the sector statements features unpublished solo projects by emerging artists, who are also competing for the prestigious “Baloise Art Prize”. The Baloise Group acquires works of art from the winning artists, and then subsequently donates these works to leading artistic institutions in Europe. In 2018, there are 17 interesting projects by artists such as Christine Sun Kim (young deaf American artist who is also nominated for the Paulo Cunha e Silva Art Prize), represented by white space, from Beijing.

Curated by Gianni Jetzer, the sector Unlimited it is the exhibition platform for projects that transcend the traditional booth at art fairs, including large-scale sculptures and paintings, video projections, installations and live performances. There are 72 great names in contemporary art, including Ai Wei Wei, Francis Alÿs, Matthew Barney, McArthur Binion, Daniel Buren, Alberto Burri, Paul Chan, Douglas Gordon, Dan Graham, Camille Henrot, Jenny Holzer, Alfredo Jaar, Richard Long, Ibrahim Mahama, Yoko Ono, James Turrell, Cerith Wyn Evans and Brazilian Lygia Pape.

Already the segment Parcours engage the public with works site-specific, interventions and performances carried out by the city's neighborhoods. Works by renowned artists and young talents will be on display in and around the Münsterplatz square (check the map on here!). Parcours is curated by Samuel Leuenberger, from SALTS exhibition space. In addition to the gallery sectors, the Art Basel fair also offers a screening program of films made by and about artists, organized and curated by Maxa Zoller. Known for her experimental projections, Zoller has devised a diverse and challenging program of works that reflect on the complex role that the media have in today's globalized world, with an emphasis on feature films. Complementing the program of the Art Basel fair, there is still the section Edition, which brings together the main publishers of serial works, prints and multiples, produced in collaboration with great artists; the section magazines, with art publications from around the world in booths with magazines and publishers; and the program Conversations, a series of conversations and speeches on topics involving the global contemporary art scene. This last segment is a platform for dynamic dialogues between prominent members of the art world, with different perspectives on art production, collecting and exhibition, with collectors, artists, gallerists, curators, architects, lawyers, critics, etc.
